Everyday Turkish Breakfast

December 18, 2017 Brittany Peterson
turkishbreakfast

Since most of us could benefit from more vegetables in our diet, and eating a Turkish-style breakfast is a perfect way to start your day, no matter where you live!

I love this breakfast because you can graze on it slowly while reading the morning news or chatting with your family. It looks like a lot of food, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to go overboard on calories. The breakfast plate pictured in this post - including a small cucumber, 5-6 cherry tomatoes, 1.5 oz feta cheese, a few olives, a drizzle of olive oil, and a slice of whole wheat bread on the side - comes in around just 400 calories. Add a hard-boiled egg for some extra protein for just another 70 calories!

What You'll Need (For One):
1 small cucumber, peeled and sliced
1 tomato (or 5-6 cherry tomatoes), sliced
1 long green pepper, sliced
~5 olives
1.5 oz feta cheese (for those in the USA, try Dodoni Feta in Brine)
Pinch of oregano
Pinch of red pepper flakes (Aleppo if you can find it)
Drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
1 slice whole wheat bread, toasted
Hard-boiled egg

Throw everything onto a plate and dig in! For extra Turkish ambiance, brew some black tea and turn on Feridun Düzağaç on Spotify.
